Introduction
The Board
members and Coaches would like to welcome everyone to the
Elementary and Middle School Springfield Ice Hockey season. We are looking
forward to a fun, instructional, and competitive season for all of our
players. This handbook has been created to help you become more familiar
with the club and to help answer any questions you may have throughout the
year. If you have any questions, comments or concerns, please contact the
Board and we will do our best to answer your question, and address your
comments and concerns. We would also like to thank all of the players,
parents, and coaches who have supported the club by volunteering their time
and talents throughout the years. Without your support the Springfield Ice
Hockey Club would not be possible.
Mission
Statement
The
Springfield Ice Hockey Club’s mission is to provide our families and players
with a stimulating and challenging hockey experience, with an emphasis on
skills development, team concept, fair play, respect and sportsmanship, with
the overall goal of preparing each child in the program for the challenges
of high school hockey.
Goals for the Season
- FUN!!!
- Develop skills for our
players
- Keep parents involved and
informed
Get more parent involvement in off ice activities
Codes of Conduct
Player Code of
Conduct
- Play for fun.
- Work hard to improve your skills.
- Be a team player. Get along with your teammates.
- Learn teamwork, sportsmanship, and discipline.
- Be on time for practices and games.
- Learn the rules and play by them. Always be a good
sport.
- Respect your coach, your teammates, your parents,
opponents and officials.
- Never argue with an official’s decision. Talk to
your coach about the decision.
- Follow all club rules as stated in the handbook.
Parents Code of
Conduct
- Follow all club rules as stated in the handbook.
- Encourage your child to play by the rules.
Remember, children learn best by example, so applaud the good plays of
both teams.
- Do not embarrass your child by yelling at players,
coaches or officials. By showing a positive attitude toward the game and
all of its participants, your child will benefit.
- Emphasize skill development and practices and how
they benefit your young athlete. De-emphasis games and competition,
especially at lower age groups.
- Know the rules of the game, and support the
officials on and off the ice. This approach will help in the development
and support of the game.
- Applaud a good effort in victory and in defeat and
enforce the positive points of the game.
- Recognize the importance of volunteer coaches. They
are important to the development of your child and the sport. Communicate
with them and support them.
Coaches Code of Conduct
- Winning is a consideration, but not the only one,
nor the most important. Care more about your players’ skill development
than winning the game.
- Be alert to the physical safety of players.
- Be a positive role model to your players by
displaying emotional maturity.
- Do not verbally or physically abuse an official,
player or parent. Learn to be a more effective communicator.
- Adjust to personal need and problems of players by
being a good listener.
- Give all players the opportunity to improve their
skills, gain confidence and develop self-esteem.
- Do your best to make sure all players receive the
same amount of ice time.
- Organize practices that are fun and challenging for
your players.
- Maintain an open line of communication with your
players’ parents. Explain goals and objectives.
- Follow all club rules.
- Follow all league rules.
Uniforms
Each player must have a White and Blue
jersey and White and Blue socks. Both jerseys are to be brought to each
game incase there is a conflict in jersey color. Uniform jerseys are not
to be worn at practices. Uniforms will be ordered at the May
Registration date so that players will have their jerseys by the start of
the season. If you have questions about the uniform or placing an order,
please contact the Vice President.
Parent Involvement
The success of The Springfield Ice Hockey
Club is based on the involvement and support of its players, parents,
coaches, and board members. Below is a list of areas where parent
involvement will be needed on each team to continue the success of the
program. Please notify the Board/Coach of the area you would be interested
in becoming involved in.

Financial Responsibility
A $360.00 dollar deposit is due at
registration, with the balance being paid in full at evaluations. Players
not paid in full by evaluations will not be able to attend practices or
games until full payment has been made. If you are unable to meet your
financial responsibility, please talk to the President of the club to make
arrangements about a payment plan.
Fund Raising
The
club will have a group night at the Philadelphia Phantoms. Each family will
pay $70 at registration and in exchange will receive 4 tickets to the
Phantoms at a game to be determined. The club will also host three
dinner’s at Wendy’s. This is an easy fundraiser, which only asks that you
bring the kids to dinner on a Wednesday night. These will be held in
October, January and March. We will also be repeating the Home Interiors
candle sale. Forms will be given out in October and collected around
Thanksgiving. Candles will be delivered in mid December in time for a
Holiday gift.
It is our
hope that we can raise $1500 – 2000 this year. That money will be put back
into the club, through tournament fees, equipment replacement, coaching
clinics or end of year parties for the kids. Last year we raised enough
money to purchase new practice jerseys for the middle school teams. The
coaches will distribute these jerseys once team rosters are set.
Sponsorships
The hockey
club is offering a sponsorship program for those members who may be
interested. For a $50.00 donation to the club you can have all of the

Community Outreach
This year we
would like to see the kids be involved in the charity contributions.
Currently no particular charity has been decided upon, but if you have a
suggestion please email it to us or come to a board meeting. Ideas could
include toys for tots or some similar act in which our kids could give to
less fortunate kids. We are open to any suggestions as long as it allows
the kids to be involved. We will also looking for someone to be the point
person on this endeavor. If you have charity experience or a really big van
we’re looking for you.
